Eighty-seven percent of all fractures in senior citizens over the age of sixty-five years of age are caused by falls. Twenty percent of deaths related to injuries are the result of accidental falls. These accidents cause fear of further falls, pain, permanent disabilities, and the loss of independence and dignity.
With more than one-half of all accidents occurring in the home, and most of those in the bathroom, the statistics demand that we take every precaution to avoid the types of injuries sustained by the elderly in their homes.
A safer environment is an absolute necessity to maintain the health and well-being of those at greatest risk. Providing a safer bathroom is not excessively costly and can be completed in a relatively short amount of time.
Any rug without a rubber back should be removed and replaced with skid-proof rubber backed rugs to ensure footing. This is especially important in the bathtub and sink areas. The tub or shower should have slip-proof strips installed.
Grab bars must be installed in areas where they would be of the most use, such as near and in the tub and beside the toilet. Rubber coated or textured grab bars are the safest, as they provide a tighter grip.
A special toilet seat is available in any store that provides equipment for the handicapped. This seat is much thicker and raises the seat up several inches. Maintaining their balance is much easier when they do not have to sit and rise from a low place.
There has been an increasing incidence of accidental drug overdose in seniors resulting in serious injuries and sadly, even fatalities. This is often caused by a person forgetting that they have already taken their medication or they take a medication thinking it is something else. All medications, even over-the-counter medicine, should be locked up where they can not be accessed without assistance.
Another cause for concern is when a senior locks the bathroom door. While it is very important that they maintain their privacy and dignity, it is dangerous when they fall and the family is unable to reach them due to a locked door.
A system must be worked out so that their privacy is protected, while at the same time assistance is not delayed while someone hunts for a key or the lock is broken to gain access.
With a few preventative measures any home can be made safe for a senior and allows them to remain at home with family for a much longer period of time.

I like baskets in my bathroom; since baskets will adjoin shades to anything you have in the room. Baskets also allow you to coordinate with other bathroom accessories, such as shower curtains, throw rugs, sink skirts, etc. On the market, you can find many baskets to choose from. Baskets come in all kinds of shades, contours, and dimensions. Ultimately, you can create your own baskets. Creating your own is fun, since you put heart into your own creation, which brings grand rewards for years to come.
How are baskets created?
Some baskets are made of common newspapers. In addition, you can create baskets from organic grasses from the sea. One can even create baskets from wheat, straw, or uncovered timber, etc. People make baskets from old rags lying around the house also. I have seen some baskets made out of shoeboxes. You can make baskets out of anything you want to, providing you know what type of bathroom accessories you desire to put in your home.
How can I use my basket?
You can use your baskets for many different things, such as storage. I use the baskets to store various items, including correspondence, invoices, etc in the kitchen, yet in the bathroom I store bathe items, such as skin goods, liniments, etc. You can also store hand towels, cosmetics, shaving blends etc in the baskets. I like baskets because they are pretty, and it offers you a great storage facility for many items.
Baskets can be used as compost bucket, or you can store your hair items in the baskets. Baskets give you the advantage of sitting them on shelves or the floor to fill up that vacant corner legroom. You can use the baskets to store your laundry. The storage bin will free up disorder around your bathroom.
How to decorate baskets:
You can use a wide array of items to decorate your baskets. When decorating your own basket try using items, such as ribbons, binds, clasps, etc. You can find old items around the house and come up with your own ideals. Perhaps some idle textile might make a great bend over for your basket. Toting up ribbons to your basket close to the pinnacle is a great idea. In addition, you can interlace ribbon onto your basket, which you cannot go wrong with creating your own exclusive approach.
One of my favorites is the ivy storage baskets. The ivy has a variety of shades that go with everything in your bathroom. In addition, ivy is easy to manage, which means you can create virtually anything you desire.
If you want to add style, try adding dried floral. The flowers will enhance the basket by adding texture, as well as color. At craft stores, you will find a wide array of floral, or you can dry your own.
Moss is good also. The moss works to fill in gaps around the edges and sides of your floral arrangement. Use the moss, adding it to the crown to alter effects. Creating baskets is fun, and you have the choice of designing wall hangers, ivy, floral, and so on.
How to choose your patterns?
It depends on your taste. If you are searching to accomplish uniqueness, then consider your ideas, tastes, desires and other patterns sold on the market. You have wide array of colorful items or plain textures to consider.
How would I make my own baskets?
When making your own basket you will need a few items to get in progress. First, you will need to consider what you intend to generate. Try making a draft before starting your basket project. As you draw up the floor plan, consider basket weaves, and other items you can use to design your product.

Premier Sauna And Bathroom Design For Modern Living
No comments · Posted by admin in Bathroom
A sauna in one’s apartment in no longer constrained by lack of space or shortage of money. As new and more modern design concepts come up in the architectural domain, a well and ergonomically designed sauna and an adjoining bathroom can be afforded and placed in a lot of homes today.
Bathrooms and adjoining saunas have become more stylish and contemporary, prudent use of space and sophisticated fittings can transform the smallest bathroom and sauna cabin into a glamour room. Designs and structures vary as per the taste and budget of the owner. So, what makes a good sauna and bathroom design? The first and foremost requisite for a good design is that it must be healthy, safe and pleasing. Designers go to details in order to ensure that these attributes are fulfilled.
The designers of a sauna and an adjoining bathroom at the outset look at the needs of the owner. If the structure is required for a larger audience, the design will vary significantly from that required for just a few people. By normal standards, even a small sauna must be able to fit in two people and the traditional size of a sauna available in a most places fits four. The consideration is the space available and the intended users. For apartments and in house saunas, an adjoining bathroom and a shower is recommended in order to save on space. For large community saunas, shower to bather ratio need some consideration so you get the appropriate number of showers.
Unlike saunas in yesteryears, modern saunas have a host of facilities. Running water for one is essential. In case more bathers are utilizing the services of the sauna, the showers need to be appropriately located and norms of privacy maintained. For an apartment, the bathroom next to the sauna will do the job.
When one designs a separate sauna cabin, it must have place for at least four people in the sauna, possibly more. The shower room only needs space for two at the same time since there is usually no rush when bathing and one can wait a while before showering. In addition to the sauna and shower, there should ideally be a dry room to undress and change and it should be between the shower and the remaining part of the house.
Location of a sauna is another important aspect. In case of an in-house affair, it should ideally be placed next to an exterior wall to ensure that proper ducts for ventilation can be arranged. For larger saunas, the location will depend upon the space available and the external environment. The placement and number of benches, and the location and type of heater will all play an important part in the design of larger saunas. A number of benchmarks are available for deciding upon the size, space and location of the benches within a sauna. They all boil down to the convenience and space available within the sauna.
Placement and design of a heater is also very important. The heater should be placed a safe distance away from the door and benches. If the heater is right next to the door of the sauna, the door should be hinged on the heater’s side. This will ensure that there are no burn related incidents within the sauna. The door should open out of the sauna.
Ample amount of spare towels and the other bathroom accessories must be made available. The furniture for a sauna is another aspect which one has to decide upon right at the designing stage. Wood is preferred, but it is expensive. Certain wood substitutes are also available which are gaining popularity in the market.
Overall, the sauna and bathroom must provide the user the intended pleasure and the convenience they have been designed for. Technology and material is available in abundance. What matters is your taste, style and how deep your pockets are.

Things to Remember With Bathroom Remodeling Designs
No comments · Posted by admin in Bathroom
A time will come when you’d have to think of bathroom remodeling designs. Your family could be growing or you simply don’t want to get stuck with a decade themed bathroom. Whatever is your purpose, you need the most appropriate remodeling designs for your needs. Here are important reminders when coming up with a design.
Your Budget is Crucial
Any remodeling expert will tell you that your budget is king. Your proposed budget can tell you a lot about what you can do with your bathroom. It will tell you whether you can knock off a wall, buy the latest fixtures, re route your plumbing or hire the most expensive plumber. Before you even draw the first line of your design, make sure you know how much you can afford to spend.
Designs Can be Studied
You may not be a remodeling expert. You may not even have an artistic streak but you do have particular tastes. Make your preferences more concrete by carefully studying bathroom designs in magazines and online pictures. Looking at what other bathrooms look like will help you determine what specific fixtures and colors you would want yourself. Once you have some idea of what you want, start window shopping. This is the point where you start narrowing down material types, styles and colors. This is where you decide for example whether you want ceramic or granite tiles and a round or square bath tub.
Experts Know Better
You may have already picked from among the many bathroom remodeling designs. You may have also already decided on the style, color and material of tiles, fixtures and accessories that you want. If this is the case, your next step should be to ask experts to help you out. If you aren’t quite experienced yourself or if your remodeling is extensive, you may need a full time contractor. Before you even contract them for the job, run your bathroom idea with them and find out whether your idea can be executed. Your contractor can also help you find out if your plan still fits your budget.
Your Choice of Experts Matters
Not every contractor and remodeling expert has the same quality of work. Even the best laid out plans are bound to become a mess if you do not get the right company or experts. You should shop for your contractor as carefully as you would for your materials. Consider reading contractor reviews and client recommendations online.
Buying and Stocking Makes Sense
Before the remodeling date begins, make sure everything is ready. The on site availability of your materials and tools can help get the job done faster. Ask your contractor for a close estimate of how many tiles you need and how big your fixtures should be. Buy what you need days before your contractor starts work. Buying only while the work is in progress can put you in a snag. Some materials might go out of stock or prices could increase and affect your budget.
These are just the basic considerations for bathroom remodeling designs. Take note of these basic reminders so you can make your bathroom dreams a reality.
